The Rotary Club of Point West – Sacramento is a lively and spirited group of people from a broad range of professional and business backgrounds who are committed to community service locally and throughout the world. We meet weekly over breakfast to review our many projects and listen to a guest speaker, who is usually a prominent member of our local community.

Service Above Self

The motto of Rotary is “Service Above Self” and although we fundraise, we are actively engaged with hands-on projects in Sacramento and globally in places like Zambia, Mexico and New Zealand. The specific focus of our efforts is to benefit women and children in underserved areas. We have tutored elementary and middle school students to enable them to compete academically in high school and graduate. We provide food to those in need, we clean up our local parkway, and we hold an annual leadership conference for high school students discussing leadership and personal and business ethics.

Community

The common theme in everything we do is to have fun, and we do have fun! We are a collection of people who bring their individual and divergent views and beliefs to what we do, but we enjoy being together and sincerely appreciate the commonality we find by engaging in activities to help others. Come check us out! Join us Friday mornings at a club meeting…or at one of our service projects, fundraisers or socials. We look forward to meeting you! (link to club meeting calendar).

Point West Rotary Club Foundation

The Rotary Club of Point West – Sacramento (PWR) founded the Point West Rotary Club Foundation (Foundation) in 1998. The purpose was to establish a solid funding source, giving us sustainable funding for projects that benefit the needs of our communities, with a focus on children and youth. PWR members are committed to making a meaningful impact now and in the future. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees that are elected PWR members. Club members apply for the Board, are elected by PWR members and are responsible for the Foundation’s health and growth.

As of the end of 2022, the Foundation assets have grown to $1.46 million dollars as a result of club fundraising activities, annual member contributions and donations from the community. These earnings and PWR’s fundraisers have funded various worthy projects and efforts throughout the Sacramento region. Since 1998, the Foundation has donated over $2 million to worthy charitable causes in the Sacramento region. This does not include the many hours donated by PWR members to these same causes.

Examples of charitable organizations and school projects/needs funded by PWR include:1. Sacramento Youth Center - Snacks and bus for immigrants and disadvantaged youth to participate in their local community service project. 2. Stanford Sierra Youth and Families - Camp Wonder for foster children 3. Albie Aware - Screenings and computer equipment to support mothers going through breast cancer diagnosis, treatments, being a survivor, etc. 4. St. John's Program for Real Change - Storage, strollers and playground equipment 5. Encina Preparatory High School - Science lab supplies and equipment, cheer leading needs, backpacks, creative art supplies, and more. 6. Greer Elementary - PAWSitive Behavior Program

Fun and Fellowship

Come to an Event

In addition to our commitment to helping others, we are a diverse group of people who know how to have a good time too. Please join us for one of our fun/fellowship events.

YOUNG PEOPLE'S HAPPY HOUR: The Point West Rotary Young Professional group meets once month, outside of regular club meetings and events to build relationships and networking opportunities for those under 50 years old with other members of the club. We meet for a Happy Hour once a month, typically on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at rotating locations.

THIRSTY THURSDAYS: Created to showcase some of the breweries that support our Brewfest, a group meets every other Thursday from June – September from 4:00 -5:15 to enjoy each other and... Please check event calendar for specific dates and locations, or our event site at calbrewfest.com.

COCKTAIL PARTY: PWR members, their spouses or significant others attend a cocktail party at the home of one of our members for an evening of fun, food, and friendship. The party is a great opportunity for members and guests to meet and get to know one another on a more personal basis.

BOWLING BASH: Each spring, Point West Rotary puts on a "Fun Raising" event called "Bowling Bash" which is usually held at Country Club Lanes. The purpose of this is to generate comradery with our members and guests in a friendly competition of bowling. The contest is made easier by giving everyone a strike when he/she knocks down 8 or more pins, so being a "good" bowler is not required. It is an annual event which has been active for over 20 years, but more importantly it is a fun event that everyone looks forward to.

DEMOTION PARTY: It is a celebratory party to honor the outgoing Club President, usually held the last Saturday of June, just prior to the end of the Rotary year. All members are encouraged to attend to honor the President and enjoy a lively social event.

Rotary’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We believe that exemplifying and embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) should be a part of everything we do at Rotary.

To ensure we live up to that ideal, the Board of Directors and our DEI Taskforce acted to strengthen the DEI statement originally adopted in 2019. The result is in a new commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion:

At Rotary, we understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realizing our vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.

We value diversity and celebrate the contributions of people of all backgrounds, across age, ethnicity, race, color, disability, learning style, religion, faith, socioeconomic status, culture, marital status, languages spoken, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well as differences in ideas, thoughts, values, and beliefs.

Recognizing that individuals from certain groups have historically experienced barriers to membership, participation, and leadership, we commit to advancing equity in all aspects of Rotary, including in our community partnerships, so that each person has the necessary access to resources, opportunities, networks, and support to thrive.

Recognizing that individuals from certain groups have historically experienced barriers to membership, participation, and leadership, we commit to advancing equity in all aspects of Rotary, including in our community partnerships, so that each person has the necessary access to resources, opportunities, networks, and support to thrive.

We believe that all people hold visible and invisible qualities that inherently make them unique, and we strive to create an inclusive culture where each person knows they are valued and belong.

In line with our value of integrity, we are committed to being honest and transparent about where we are in our DEI journey as an organization, and to continuing to learn and do better.
